Emissions from power generation plants

Using natural gas in high performance applications and technologies such as condensing boilers, co-generation and combined cycle power plants results in significant reductions in CO2 emissions per unit of energy generated.

Compared with a vapour cycle plant (yield of around 40%) a combined cycle plant (yielding 56-58%) produces 50% less CO2 than a traditional oil powered plant and 60% less than a coal fired plant for the same amount of power generated. A combined cycle plant produces around 50% less nitrous oxides than a coal plant for the same power.
